Play is learning

Having been named Pacesetter in the Re-imagine Learning Challenge by Ashoka and the LEGO Foundation, we happily participated in today’s Ashoka Google+ Hangout, hosted by David Gauntlett of the University of Westminster.

Aside from our very own Jan von Meppen, creator and CEO of LudInc, panelists included Jennifer Kotler (Education and Research Department at Sesame Workshop), Jordan Shapiro (Forbes und Temple University, Pennsylvania) and Bo Stjerne Thomsen (LEGO Foundation). The audience consisted of viewers from 34 countries. The panel discussed the central question of how technology and video games influence and improve learning for children. The participants quickly agreed that the problem with education is the predominant focus on results instead of the (playful) learning process. Bo Stjerne Thomsen captured the essence well: “Play is learning.”
