Merely mediocre

Compared to other countries, German students achieve a mere mediocre ranking when it comes to media competence. This is the conclusion of the International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS) that was published on November 20th 2014.

The study critiques how children and youth can not competently utilize new media, considering they are above average when it comes to physically operating devices and programs. The study further observes an imbalance between the potential that is being associated with digital media and classroom reality.

Time to start over? ICILS says Yes. The study demands a conceptional embedding of digital media in teaching and learning process at schools.
